Care for Our Own Well Construction Programme

The 21st October 2008 is a date that people of the Galganuwa, Meegalawa, Padawigama villages in the Anuradhapura District will remember for some time to come. On this day T&S Buttons Lanka finished constructing a large well of 15ft diameter, which now brings potable water to these hard working and long suffering folk, including some of our own employees. For these grateful villagers, it was a godsend as T&S Buttons ended a long period of difficulty in obtaining water. Since the establishment of the villages in 1977, many unsuccessful efforts were made to overcome an acute problem to provide this basic need. The villagers were compelled to travel four kilometers to access the nearest source of clean water. Now, 1500 villagers benefit from this project, with significant improvement in their daily lives.

Sanitary Project for Waduwegama College

Yatihena Kanishta College, in Waduwegama, Biyagama has 400 students. This neighbourhood school has only two toilets for all the schoolchildren and urgently needed new sanitary facilities. As part of our CSR programme, T&S Buttons constructed new sanitary facilities for the school. The project was completed on the 13th February 2008 with the children now happy to have modern sanitation at their school that is clean and hygienic.

Supporting the Construction of Associate Housing

Neetha Irangani joined T&S Buttons at inception as a general factory worker in 1997 and has progressed to the level of Supervisor. Today, she is one of our key Associates and the beneficiary of another of our social projects. This housing project initiative was taken in order to improve Neetha’s living standards as she did not have proper shelter. Neetha proudly moved into her new home on the 28th January 2009, proud to be a part of an organisation with a heart.

Blood Donation Campaign

On 25th June 2008, to mark World Blood Donor Day, employees of T&S Buttons Lanka participated in a blood donation drive. Thirty per cent of our employees donated a total of 91 pints of blood to the National Blood Transfusion Service. The campaign was a success with a number of invitees from neighbouring companies in the area participating too.
